This year we are learning to use Legos in a variety of ways while implementing them into our curriculum. We have a new program called Lego LearntoLearn and we just began with our first three License lessons. Take a look at our inventions! This was a super busy day with a visit from Santa and a visit from our families! We sang our Christmas songs and then spent wonderful quality time with our families over cookies and hot chocolate! Santa visits and the children can hardly control their excitement! Thank you, Santa, for making each and everyone one of us feel extra special!
Our STEM project made it onto the Wallenpaupack Website! Mrs. Conklin's Kindergarten class at the South Elementary School joined the Gingerbread STEM Community Collaborative Challenge for December. By taking part in this project, the students were expected to build a gingerbread village from graham crackers, icing, and candy treats. As a class, they were to determine which buildings to create and why. Each class joining the challenge was partnered with another class somewhere in the world for a special data and presentation exchange. Upon completion of the project they were expected to Skype the partner classroom and share their results. Mrs. Conklin's class Skyped a Kindergarten class (Ms. Magyar's) in Fort Montgomery Elementary School in Fort Montgomery, NY, and shared their lessons in planning the designs for their houses, the floor plans for their villages and the reasons for the buildings they designed. At the end of their Skype visit, they had the opportunity to view the village of the other class, ask them questions about their project and sing "Jingle Bells" together. This project allowed for a huge amount of collaboration between Kindergarten and Mrs. Flynn's Second Grade class, as they helped create the buildings. The project also offered opportunities for communication and imagination in Kindergarten as they planned, designed, and implemented the set-up for the village. This was a fun learning experience for everyone involved! The children wanted to write letters to Santa, so that's exactly what they did! Santa is a lucky man to have such adorable children to love him!
